Left ventricular hypertrophy. In our laboratory we are exploring novel pathways involved in left ventricular hypertrophy. We have described several up and down-regulated proteins not previously known to be involved in hypertrophy in a recent publication. We are actually looking for the regulation of the expression and the potential function of some of these proteins.
We are also looking for plasma biomarkers of left ventricular hypertrophy starting in a experimental approach and now moving to the clinical ground, testing the presence of several potential biomarkers of hypertrophy in the serum of hypertensive patients with and without such condition.
Atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus. We are also interested on the mechanisms involved in the accelerated atherosclerosis associated to diabetes mellitus and how high glucose concentrations can alter vascular homeostasis favouring the progression of atherosclerosis.
