Research Lines and Aims

The fundamental aims of CARDIOVREP are the identification and validation of new targets and establishing new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for pathologies associated to cardiovascular dysfunction.

CARDIOVREP articulates around the concept that to deepen the knowledge of the basic mechanisms of pathogenesis will allow the rational design of new therapeutic approaches. CARDIOVREP will dedicate a special effort to the ability of modulate a group of inter- and intracellular signals that are crucial for cardiovascular development, maintenance and repair, and to determine the therapeutic effectivity of these approximations in animal models and clinical trials.

This project will be focus in the study of the functional convergence of four signaling pathways: Notch, Calcineurin-NFAT, NO (nitric oxide) and TGFβ- in specific aspects of the development and physiopathology of the cardiovascular system.

  1. Development, vascular tone and endothelial homeostasis.
  2. Cardiac hypertrophy.
  3. Cardiac homeostasis and stem cells.
